Archaeological findings have pinpointed a pool at Bethesda in Jerusalem as the site of one of Jesus’ miracles: the healing of a paralyzed man who had waited for 38 years for assistance into the pool, believed to possess healing properties when stirred. The Pools of Bethesda, consisting of reservoirs and medicinal pools, are situated in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City, north of the Temple Mount, approximately 50 meters inside St. Stephen’s or Lions’ Gate. Historically, this gate was known as the Sheep Gate, designated for the arrival of sacrificial sheep at the Temple.
