Capernaum, once a bustling fish-market and frontier post beside the Sea of Galilee, holds profound significance as Jesus’ hometown and the backdrop for many of his miracles. This town served as the dwelling place for Jesus and his first disciples, including fishermen Peter, Andrew, James, John, and tax collector Matthew. Capernaum witnessed Jesus’ teachings in the synagogue, where his authority astounded the locals, and where he foreshadowed the Eucharist. Here, Jesus performed numerous healings, including Peter’s mother-in-law and the daughter of Jairus, the synagogue leader. Despite these miracles, the town faced a curse due to the disbelief of many inhabitants, alongside Bethsaida and Chorazin.
